Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maka Bochorishvili took part in the Arab Media Summit held in the United Arab Emirates. During a panel discussion at the Euronews forum, “Shaping the National Narrative in an Era of Open Media,” the Foreign Minister focused on Georgia’s economic growth indicators and “the scale of partnerships that Georgia is developing.”
According to Bochorishvili, large-scale disinformation campaigns have been waged against Tbilisi over the past few years, yet “the disseminated narratives often diverge significantly from the reality within the country.”
“Contradictory opinions about Georgia are often voiced, but our message is simple—look at the facts: the pace of economic growth and the depth of the partnerships the country is building.”
Speaking about Georgia’s geopolitical role, the Minister highlighted transport and logistics connectivity and the significance of the “Middle Corridor”—”this is not merely a transit route or physical infrastructure; it is a strategic space where all key processes converge.”
The Minister also added that Georgia occupies a key position in the broader architecture of European security, stability, and sustainable economic progress, particularly given the strategic potential of the South Caucasus and regional connectivity. She also addressed current threats to national security, emphasizing that Russia’s military presence in Georgian regions remains a fundamental challenge to the country’s sovereignty and security.
At the same time, as the Foreign Minister noted, the changing geopolitical landscape also opens up new prospects for Georgia—primarily for strengthening peace, maintaining resilience, continuing economic growth, and diversifying partnerships around the world.
Bochorishvili touched separately upon the agenda of dialogue with the EU.
“The European Union has been and remains Georgia’s most important partner. For us, this is a deeply emotional issue—it is inextricably linked to our identity and historical path, while simultaneously defining our future.”
She added that European aspirations and values are organically woven into the cultural and historical code of the Georgian people, making the trajectory of European integration a natural one.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted the topic of EU enlargement, emphasizing that the South Caucasus plays a critical role in pan-European security and prosperity.
“If we are having a serious conversation about enlargement and the strategic security of the continent, it is necessary to understand: the South Caucasus is an integral part of the geopolitical map, directly influencing both stability and economic prosperity in Europe,” Bochorishvili noted.
In her view, deepening cooperation between Tbilisi and Brussels requires continuous dialogue, mutual respect, and the exchange of practical experience.
“We have a firm European aspiration, but we do not yet have the institutional experience of being within the European family. Europe seeks enlargement, but it also lacks sufficient experience of direct engagement in the South Caucasus. Accordingly, both sides need to learn and listen to each other, which can only be achieved through close dialogue and coordinated joint work.”
Maka Bochorishvili also added that Tbilisi is simultaneously expanding ties with partners in other regions of the world, consistently strengthening the country’s international standing.
Turning to the macroeconomic situation and foreign trade, the Minister cited key statistical data.
“Georgia is demonstrating one of the highest economic growth rates across the region and Europe as a whole—around 8%—which is a more than convincing result. It is objective indicators that serve as the best response to any distorted narratives about our country,” Bochorishvili concluded.
