The leaders of Georgia and Türkiye held a meeting in New York on September 22 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Irakli Kobakhidze and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met at the Turkish House (Türkevi Center)—the headquarters of Turkish diplomatic missions located in Manhattan opposite the UN headquarters.
“We discussed the longstanding Georgia-Türkiye strategic partnership and reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest,” Kobakhidze wrote on X.
The Administration of the Government of Georgia stated that “particular attention was paid to the positive dynamics in the development of political and economic relations.”
“The sides discussed joint strategic projects of regional significance that make a substantial contribution to regional development and strengthening connectivity”—in this context, the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, “which has been fully put into operation,” was highlighted.
“Cooperation in the transport and energy sectors was also discussed at the meeting,” the administration stated.
The Prime Minister of Georgia arrived in New York with a delegation on September 21 to take part in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Kobakhidze is scheduled to address the General Debate of the General Assembly session on the 24th. The Prime Minister is also slated to hold meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and “leaders of various states.”
