For safety reasons, traffic has been suspended on the Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Lars highway in the Dariali Gorge. This was announced by the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.
“On the Dariali Gorge section of the Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Lars international highway, torrential rainfall triggered the Devdoraki early warning sensor, leading to an evacuation order issued for the gorge at 06:30. In this connection, the movement of all types of motor vehicles is prohibited,” the agency said in a statement.
Earlier, it was reported that an alarm had been triggered by the early warning system installed in the Devdoraki Gorge, which registers changes at minimal rises in the water level of the riverbed. In accordance with established protocol, individuals at the Dariali border checkpoint were evacuated to a safe area.
