Georgian media outlets have reported details of an incident that occurred last night in the Sanzona district of Tbilisi, where an elevator plunged in an apartment building.
According to eyewitnesses, six people were in the elevator, five of whom were teenagers. The cabin plummeted from the ninth floor. There are two elevators in the entranceway of the building where the incident occurred; it was the freight elevator that malfunctioned.
“Everyone is alive; one person has a broken leg,” an eyewitness noted.
According to the TV Pirveli channel, the teenagers were returning from a birthday party. An adult passenger sustained the broken leg.
Three of the victims were taken to the First University Clinic. As Lali Turdzeladze, the hospital’s clinical director, told the IPN news agency, no serious injuries were found among the minors, and they have already been discharged home.
“One had a bruised knee, and another had a bruised shin. All three were teenagers,” the doctor said.
Citing residents of the building, TV Pirveli reported that there had been issues with the elevator previously.
