Prisoner Extradited from Georgia Opens Fire in Russia, Killing Convoy Guard

In Russia, a prisoner extradited from Georgia attacked guards aboard a specialized prisoner transport railcar. The incident occurred in Kabardino-Balkaria on a train transporting remand detainees and convicts.

“The Prosecutor General’s Office reported the extradition [by Georgia] in late September this year. The prisoner was being transported overland, which is how he ended up on the Vladikavkaz–Adler train. Near the Murtazovo station, close to Beslan, Pushkarev asked to use the toilet. On the way, he managed to snatch a pistol from a guard and opened fire. He killed one of the guards and wounded three others, one of whom is in serious condition. Pushkarev was killed in the shootout,” reported the news outlet Fontanka.

The TASS news agency, citing the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), confirmed the prisoner’s identity:

“The individual killed while attacking FSIN officers was Dmitry Pushkarev, who had previously been extradited from Georgia to face criminal prosecution on drug-related charges and Part 1 of Article 210 of the Russian Criminal Code (establishment of a criminal organization).”

The shooter was identified as a native of Magadan. According to the media outlet Mash, in 2023–2024 he was involved in drug distribution before fleeing abroad alongside his accomplices.
