The terms of a plea agreement between the prosecutor’s office and those convicted in connection with the events of October 4, 2025, Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze, are currently in the final stages of approval; however, the IPN news agency has learned several details. Specifically, according to the outlet, the deal being finalized for both defendants stipulates an actual prison term of 1 year and 1 month.
If the final agreement is approved under these terms, the convicts will be released from the penitentiary facility on November 4.
Earlier, the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia reported that the defendants were ready to conclude a plea bargain and had submitted a formal motion to that effect.
“Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze, who were found guilty of attempting to seize a strategically important facility, organizing, leading, and participating in group violence, as well as publicly calling for the violent change of Georgia’s constitutional order and the overthrow of the state government, admitted their crimes, expressed remorse, and submitted corresponding applications to the prosecutor’s office regarding the conclusion of a plea agreement,” the agency stated.
As a reminder, on October 4, 2025, held concurrently with Georgia’s municipal elections, a mass protest took place in central Tbilisi, referred to by the opposition as the “National Assembly.” During the rally, a declaration was read out proclaiming the termination of the government’s mandate and the start of a peaceful transition period. Shortly thereafter, a faction of the opposition and its supporters marched toward the presidential residence, where demonstrators broke through the perimeter fence and attempted to breach the Orbeliani Palace. The gathering was dispersed by riot police.
The organizers of the “peaceful transition of power” were detained and sentenced to prison. The maximum sentences (7 years of imprisonment) were handed down to Murtaz Zodelava, Lasha Beridze, as well as Paata Burchuladze, Irakli Nadiradze, and Paata Manjgaladze.
