The prison guard seen wearing gloves in a widely circulated video recording involving inmate Giorgi Davitadze is no longer employed in the penitentiary system.
As the agency informed the outlet Netgazeti, guard Giorgi Vorobyov resigned of his own accord several months ago.
As a reminder, inmate Giorgi Davitadze alleges that prison guards subjected him to sexualized violence. The incident reportedly took place on December 21, 2025. The inmate made this statement during a hearing at the Court of Appeals. According to him, the act was captured on a surveillance camera, with ten people present in the cell at that moment.
The Special Penitentiary Service categorically denies the allegations. The agency released footage and stated that upon transfer to a de-escalation cell, a convicted individual is subject to a search and inspection, which Davitadze “categorically refused and began hurling verbal abuse at the facility’s staff.”
The inmate’s family, however, maintains that the released video recording is incomplete and is demanding that the materials be published in full and with audio.
