Media: Russian Man Fined for Insulting Georgians Following Kakheti Wedding Altercation

A resident of Kursk has been fined in Russia for insulting Georgians on social media, the news outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti reports.

According to the outlet, the penalty was imposed on Ilya R. over his comment under a video showing an incident at a wedding in Kakheti, where the groom’s brother, Giorgi Chigladze, struck a Russian female tourist in the face:

“F***ing black-a** scum, we should have f***ing smashed everything there back in 2008 so they’d be in the Stone Age, ‘brotherly nations’ f***ing hell.”

Officers from the Center for Combating Extremism of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (known as Center “E”) reportedly discovered the comment and filed an administrative offense report for inciting ethnic hatred against Georgians, determining that the man’s words also constituted a call to destroy Georgia.

In court, Ilya R. pleaded guilty and expressed remorse for his actions, which was taken into account in the verdict. Taking into consideration that the man was unemployed, the court fined him 10,000 rubles (approximately $120).

As previously reported, in July 2026, a confrontation broke out between Russian female tourists and wedding guests at the Agarani Estate hotel in Telavi, Kakheti. During the dispute, the groom’s brother, Giorgi Chigladze, struck one of the tourists, Alyona Nesteryuk, in the face.

According to Chigladze’s side, the clash was sparked by the women’s behavior; they allegedly shouted various remarks from a balcony and poured liquid onto wedding guests and musical equipment. The tourists, however, claimed that they were attacked simply for speaking Russian.

Chigladze was detained on charges of inflicting minor bodily harm, but was subsequently released on bail set at 5,000 lari (approximately $1,900).
