Iranian President Proposes Step-by-Step Plan to Strengthen Relations to Georgian Prime Minister

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze and President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian held talks in Yerevan. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which is being held in the capital of Armenia.

As reported by the Iranian presidential administration, during the conversation Pezeshkian stated that Tehran and Tbilisi require “a clear framework and a step-by-step action plan to strengthen relations.” He also called for translating the expanding economic, cultural, and tourism ties between the two nations into practical cooperation.

“Touching upon US sanctions against Iran, President Pezeshkian described these measures as contrary to humanitarian principles and condemned the recent attacks on Iran as unjustified and inhumane.

He emphasized that Iran does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, rejecting false propaganda directed against the country. The president also stated that Iran has always been open to dialogue, but will not yield to pressure,” the administration of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated.

The release also noted that Kobakhidze, for his part, stated that Georgia maintains a clear stance regarding neighboring countries and opposes any foreign interference in their internal affairs.

“Pointing to the geographical and cultural ties between the two countries, the Georgian Prime Minister noted that bilateral relations should be guided by friendship and cooperation.

He expressed hope that coordination between the foreign ministries and diplomatic services of the two countries will help find common ground in economic cooperation and tourism,” the Iranian presidential administration reported.

The press service of the Georgian government, in turn, distributed photographs from the meeting between Irakli Kobakhidze and Masoud Pezeshkian, but released no information regarding the substance of the talks.
