Pro-Kremlin politicians have established the “Unity of Russians and Georgians” foundation in Moscow. In parallel, a round-table discussion titled “Russians and Georgians of Russia: Unity of Peoples, Support for Compatriots, and Preservation of Cultural Heritage” took place.
The organization was founded by former Georgian Prosecutor General Otar Romanov-Partskhaladze, Mamuka Pipia, and Nikolay Kartozia. Mamuka Pipia was appointed chairman of the foundation.
As part of the event, participants signed a final resolution containing proposals to strengthen humanitarian and cultural ties. The document calls for an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Georgian government with initiatives to advance bilateral relations.
Among the tabled proposals are the establishment of a Russian-Georgian (Slavic) University, the promotion of the Russian language in both countries, and the restoration of worship services and pilgrimages at the Lomisa Church. According to Mamuka Pipia, the primary objective of the new body is to facilitate the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two states and move from declarations of intent to practical action.
The resolution also set out plans for the foundation’s future development, the creation of a public board of trustees comprising figures from academia, culture, education, and business, as well as the drafting of an immediate action plan. The founders had previously stated that the foundation intends to begin operations with joint trade and economic initiatives, attracting investment, organizing youth exchanges, and launching its own media outlets.
