Georgian citizen Koba Khabazi has been sentenced in absentia by the supreme court of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR) to 13 years of imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony. This was reported by Russian media. He is accused of violating an article of the UK (Ugolovnyy Kodeks — Criminal Code) of Russia regarding the “participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict.”
The Russian side notes that Khabazi arrived in Ukraine in March 2022 via a Polish border crossing and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He underwent combat training and participated in hostilities against the Russian armed forces until January 2026, receiving more than 3.6 million rubles as compensation for his participation in the fighting.
Russian media also report that Khabazi has been placed on an international wanted list.
