In the Tsalka municipality, where a case of rabies was confirmed and a month-long quarantine declared, 2,000 cattle, 18 small livestock, 185 dogs, and 75 cats, as well as five pigs and four donkeys, have been vaccinated. This was reported by the Mayor of the Tsalka municipality, Iliya Sabadze, in a conversation with the Interpressnews online news agency.

“The rabies case was confirmed on April 6. The virus was transmitted from a fox to dogs. Following this, we informed the local population, and a month-long quarantine was declared on April 8, lasting until May 8.

Preventive measures have already been carried out on-site. The procedures are ongoing, and additional measures will be implemented if necessary—preventive work is continuous.

This year, we have recorded one case of rabies. A similar case occurred several years ago—the virus was also transmitted from a fox to a dog, and similar preventive measures were taken at that time,” Sabadze stated.

According to the National Food Agency, four stray dogs killed a fox infected with rabies. As a result, a quarantine was declared in the affected area and the risk zone of the Tsalka municipality, and anti-epidemic measures were initiated.
