“Cheap propaganda that no longer works” is how Salome Zourabichvili, the fifth President of Georgia, characterizes the meeting between Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos in Delphi. In an interview with Euroscope, Zourabichvili stated that such actions contradict the public declarations of the “Georgian Dream” (the ruling party) and its actual political course.
According to Zourabichvili, the display of incidental or formal contacts with European Union representatives cannot change the attitude the ruling team demonstrates toward Western partners.
“This talentless propaganda continues. First, a handshake with Vance in some corridor, now with Kos. Yesterday and today, they are insulting the European Union and its representative. If you have such an attitude toward EU leaders, why are you trying to impress your population with a handshake?
We all know that any Western leader, whether from the EU or America, will shake your hand if you approach them. This can be utilized, and it is a good thing, if it is followed by a corresponding attitude—that you truly want to have the kind of partnership with these people that is reflected in that handshake. But if you view it only as photo-op material while believing you can continue the insults and pursue a pro-Russian policy, it means only one thing: deceiving your population with this cheap propaganda that no longer works,” Salome Zourabichvili stated.
Earlier, Georgian media outlets circulated footage of Maka Botchorishvili with Marta Kos. Meanwhile, on the same day, members of Georgian Dream leveled serious accusations against the EU Ambassador.
