Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili spoke about a phone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and expressed a positive assessment of the initiative, which she noted “comes from the Ukrainian side.” During the call, the parties agreed to hold a meeting, Bochorishvili reports.
“Indeed, the Ukrainian side has intensified communication with Georgia. Today, I also had a phone conversation with my Ukrainian counterpart. We agreed to continue our communication and dialogue. There are indeed issues that have accumulated on the agenda.
For a very long time, the Ukrainian side communicated with Georgia and Georgian society, shall we say, through social media, and in doing so, we heard messages that were not the most pleasant and could not simply be ignored.
First of all, it is important that the initiative to sit down and discuss the issues comes from the Ukrainian side—this can already be considered a positive step. On the other hand, it is also important for us that the issues accumulated in our relations over these years are correctly understood by the Ukrainian side—in the way that we, the Georgian public, and the Georgian authorities understood them—so that we may continue our relationship.
We agreed that a meeting will take place soon, and we will be able to discuss everything that can be done to ensure that relations between the two countries return to normalcy,” Bochorishvili stated on the Imedi TV channel.
