Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili has departed for an official visit to Slovakia.
The parliament’s press service reports that during the visit to Bratislava, Papuashvili will meet with the Speaker of the Slovak Parliament. Following the talks, the parties will issue a joint statement to the press.
The Georgian parliamentary delegation includes Vice-Speaker Ilia Indzhia, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee Mariam Lashkhi, and Deputy Chair of the Georgian Dream (Kartuli Otsneba) faction Rima Beradze.
Relations between Georgia and Slovakia are friendly and partnership-based, developing within the framework of Georgia’s broader European integration agenda.
A key factor in these relations is Slovakia’s support for Georgia’s European course. Bratislava consistently advocates for deepening Georgia’s cooperation with the EU, including reforms aimed at aligning with European standards. Bratislava also supports Georgia’s territorial integrity in international formats.
Political dialogue between the countries primarily takes place at the level of parliaments and foreign ministries.
Meanwhile, economic cooperation remains relatively modest in volume, but both countries are interested in its expansion—particularly in the fields of trade, tourism, and investment. Opportunities for cooperation in education and cultural exchanges are also being discussed.
