The European Parliament has banned the Imedi TV company from working within the parliament building for a period of one year. According to the channel itself, the reason was an attempt to interview MEP (Member of the European Parliament) Rasa Juknevičienė.
Additionally, it is reported that Moldova has denied accreditation to the television channels Imedi TV, Rustavi 2, and PosTV.
“Due to this groundless decision, Imedi, Rustavi 2, and PosTV will be unable to cover the 135th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, where the head of the Georgian foreign ministry will also be present,” Imedi said in a statement.
Furthermore, the broadcaster states that it sought clarification regarding the motivation and arguments behind this decision. The channel also published a response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova.
“Please be advised that accreditation requests for participation in the 135th session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe were reviewed by the competent authorities in accordance with current national legislation and the ‘Regulation on the Accreditation of Foreign Journalists in the Republic of Moldova’.
The accreditation process involves a standard evaluation procedure for all applicants. Following the review, your request was not confirmed. We respectfully note that we cannot provide further comments regarding individual accreditation assessments or internal review procedures,” stated the response from the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as shared by the TV channel.
