Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, stated that Georgia must pass on to future generations not only a strong economy but also a “spiritually resilient country.”
Speaking at the Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi during an event dedicated to Family Purity Day, the politician emphasized that Georgia’s history shows that a strong family is the foundation of a strong society, national identity, and the state.
Papuashvili noted that despite wars, invasions, and attempts to destroy the Georgian faith, language, and culture, the country has managed to preserve itself precisely because of the family.
The head of the Georgian parliament also recalled that this year marks 1,700 years since Christianity was proclaimed the state religion of Georgia. Christianity, he emphasized, became the foundation of Georgian identity and helped maintain the unity of the people over the centuries.
Shalva Papuashvili stated that the Georgian family has always played a key role in preserving the language, traditions, Christian faith, and national memory. The politician is confident that today it is especially important to safeguard the values on which Georgian society was built.
In conclusion, the Speaker of Parliament thanked the late Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, for ensuring that May 17 became a day dedicated to family, unity, and traditional values.
