President Mattarella: Italy is closely following Georgia’s path to the European Union

Italian President Sergio Mattarella congratulated the sixth president of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, on Independence Day. The text of the congratulatory message was released by the Administration.

Mattarella noted that, despite the complex geopolitical situation, Tbilisi and Rome continue to develop new opportunities for cooperation.

“Today, as the friendly Georgian people mark and celebrate their country’s independence, I would like to cordially congratulate you on behalf of the Italian Republic.

Despite the complex geopolitical situation, which continues to be complicated by the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine and numerous flashpoints of crisis in the regions near our borders, Tbilisi and Rome continue to promote the development of new opportunities for cooperation in the spirit of long-standing and fruitful friendship.

In this light, Italy continues to closely follow Georgia’s path toward the European Union and hopes that this path will receive a new and confident momentum, based on constructive engagement and, above all, on full commitment to the principles of European integration and democratic values.

I warmly recall your participation in the opening ceremony of the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina. Mr. President, once again I wish you well-being and a successful future,” the congratulatory letter from the President of Italy reads.
