Georgian side positively assesses visa dialogue meeting with EU

A meeting on visa issues between representatives of the European Union and Georgia has concluded in Brussels. The talks lasted for more than two hours. According to Georgian representative Giorgi Tabatadze, he feels “positive” about the outcome of the meeting.

“We had a working meeting as part of the dialogue. We discussed the issues, heard their position, and they heard ours,” Tabatadze said.

When asked whether further meetings are planned, he said that “the future will tell.”

As previously explained by the European Union Delegation, today the EU and Georgia held an in-depth dialogue on visa issues following the activation of the visa-free travel suspension mechanism for holders of Georgian diplomatic, service, and official passports. This decision was triggered by EU concerns over Georgia’s failure to meet its commitments in the areas of democracy and fundamental rights.
