The Director General of the Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia, George Pataridze, asserts that in all penitentiary institutions across the country, every defendant and convict is provided with high-standard medical care. Commenting on the statements made by the lawyers of convict Elene Khoshtaria, Pataridze described them as inaccurate.
According to him, the claim that recommendations from Turkish doctors were submitted to the penitentiary service two months ago and went ignored is untrue.
“Today, at their briefing, her lawyers once again voiced an outright lie. The convict herself handed this letter of recommendations to our medical team on May 21. Following this, we organized a search for a specialist of the appropriate profile. As early as June 5, she was provided with a specialist consultation, and on June 9, the necessary laboratory tests were conducted. Today, as we speak, she has already received a consultation on the test results. A corresponding treatment plan is also scheduled for the future,” Pataridze stated.
The penitentiary service also refuted claims that Khoshtaria’s lawyers had not received a response to their inquiry.
According to Pataridze, the lawyers sent an inquiry to Penitentiary Facility No. 5 on June 3, and a response was sent to them about a week ago.
“At today’s briefing, the lawyers once again spread false information, claiming that they sent us a letter two weeks ago and have still not received a response regarding medical services for the convict. This is another lie. They contacted the facility on June 3, and already about a week ago, they received an official response from Penitentiary Facility No. 5,” the head of the service said.
Pataridze urged everyone to refrain from spreading inaccurate information and misleading the public.
