Anna Tsitlidze, a member of the United National Movement (UNM), has addressed Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, expressing disagreement with his latest statements. “As long as decisions are made by three people (figuratively speaking), while the majority finds out about them from Facebook, the party will be in a constant state of crisis and will never become a truly grassroots party,” Tsitlidze wrote on social media. According to her, the party must put an end to backroom decision-making.
“Based on past experience, I cannot take responsibility for things I did not participate in and opposed, or things I was not asked about at all, where the decision was made without my involvement. The cascade of erroneous decisions will continue until real internal democracy is established in the party, where decisions are made from the bottom up.
Right now, the UNM has a chance to change the situation, and I hope the party will seize it. We need to change the rules of the game, not just the names and faces: ensure transparency, real participation of voters and party members in its activities, and put an end to backroom decisions. If we do this, we will move forward; if not, we will keep going in circles,” Anna Tsitlidze wrote on Facebook.
As a reminder, Mikheil Saakashvili previously explained his support for journalist Nanuka Zhorzholiani as a candidate for the post of chairperson of the National Movement.
“Tina’s strength lies in public speaking and international relations, so co-chairmanship would have been a good option, but she took Nanuka’s arrival too painfully,” Saakashvili wrote.
