Speaker: Hate in Georgia is Associated with Pro-Europeanism

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that today, in the eyes of the Georgian people, hate is associated with pro-Europeanism, specifically with those who hide behind pro-European slogans.

According to him, they are the sources of hate and the main disseminators of indecency.

Commenting on the work of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ department for combating hate speech, he stated that the EU must support this initiative if it does not want to be associated with hate speech once again.

“This is an important issue for our political landscape and security—to ensure there is no incitement to escalate relations through the use of hate speech.

Secondly, this will lead to a slight improvement in the European Union’s tarnished reputation. Today, in the eyes of Georgians, hate is associated with pro-Europeanism. We see that those who supposedly advocate for pro-European values are the sources of hate and the main disseminators of indecency on social media and beyond. Because of this, the reputation of the European Union itself suffers.

Therefore, if the EU does not want to be associated with indecency, insults, and hate speech again, I think it should also support this initiative, which will ultimately force the so-called pro-European forces to return to polite, civil rhetoric without insults, and thereby explain to us what they want.

We have realized that they excel at insults, but if they have any arguments and ideas beyond insults, we will see them,” the speaker of the Georgian parliament stated.
