Nikoloz Samkharadze, a “Georgian Dream” MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, stated that Russia is attempting to strengthen the occupation regime in the Tskhinvali region and facilitate the annexation of Georgian territories.
The politician made this statement while speaking at the 33rd annual session of the Committee on Political Affairs and Security of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
“First of all, I would like to thank the rapporteur for the presented report, as well as for including the issue of the occupation of Georgian territories by the Russian Federation in the document we agreed upon in Vienna. This is of immense importance, as Georgia has been living under occupation for over 30 years.
In this regard, we would like to strongly condemn the so-called ‘Agreement on Deepening Alliance Cooperation,’ signed in May of this year between the Russian Federation and so-called South Ossetia. This document is a flagrant violation of international law and represents yet another desperate attempt by Moscow to strengthen the occupation regime and facilitate the de facto annexation of territories that the international community recognizes as an integral part of Georgia,” the politician stated.
