Music producer and songwriter Konstantin Meladze has, according to media reports, “secretly” obtained Georgian citizenship.
Media outlets report that in order to obtain his new passport, Meladze had to renounce his previous one—Ukrainian citizenship—as Georgia does not recognize dual citizenship.
The producer renewed his Ukrainian passport in 2024.
Under Georgian law, dual citizenship is permitted only in exceptional cases and with the consent of the president. Officially, Konstantin Meladze has not received such permission. This gives observers grounds to assume that he renounced his Ukrainian passport in order to retain his Georgian citizenship.
It is worth recalling that since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Konstantin Meladze has preferred not to make public statements. He does not comment on ongoing events and rarely appears in public. According to unofficial sources, the producer currently resides in Italy.
Konstantin Meladze was born in 1963 in Batumi.
