In Georgia, teenager sentenced to nearly 10 years in torture case

The Tbilisi City Court has found one of the minor defendants guilty in a case involving an organized group engaged in torture and violent group actions, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia announced.

The prosecution states that the convicted individual adhered to a “fascist-Nazi” ideology and organized acts of violence and torture against people whose lifestyle the group members considered unacceptable. Minors were among the victims.

The court established that the defendant participated in organizing the torture and personally subjected the victims to physical and psychological violence. It found the teenager guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia, including torture committed by an organized group, torture of a known minor, and organizing and participating in violent group actions.

The court initially sentenced the minor to 14 years and 6 months in prison. However, in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Code, the term was reduced by one-third — he was sentenced to 9 years and 8 months of imprisonment.
