Foreign Minister: NATO Has Strengthened Georgia’s Defense Capabilities

Georgian Foreign Minister and Vice Prime Minister Maka Botchorishvili participated in a panel discussion titled “Beyond the Post-Cold War: How to Navigate an Era of Strategic Uncertainty” at the “Allies in Ankara” event, held on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Turkey.

The Minister highlighted the long-standing partnership between Georgia and NATO, noting that the Alliance and its member states have made a significant contribution to strengthening Georgia’s defense capabilities. Botchorishvili also emphasized that Georgia actively participates in NATO missions and operations.

“The partnership between NATO and Georgia has developed very closely, and we have been cooperating for many years. NATO and its member states have contributed to the development of Georgia’s defense capabilities. At the same time, it is important to note that Georgia has always made a significant contribution to the transatlantic agenda, as well as to NATO missions and operations. The mission in Afghanistan is at least worth mentioning, as it demonstrates Georgia’s contribution as a non-NATO member state. Georgia was the largest troop contributor to this mission,” stated Botchorishvili.

The Minister also noted the security challenges facing Georgia, adding that maintaining peace and stability remains the top priority of the country’s foreign and domestic policy.
