The deadline for the rehabilitation of the Varketili metro station has been extended yet again—this time until December 30, 2026. A corresponding agreement was signed between the Tbilisi Transport Company and Bada Construction.
According to a document published on April 1, 2026, on the website of the State Procurement Agency, the rehabilitation process of the upper vestibule at the Varketili metro station had been suspended.
The suspension was triggered by an expert assessment from the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, which identified “unacceptable crack dimensions and their non-compliance with the parameters stipulated by regulations.”
As a reminder, on March 11, the Tbilisi City Hall issued a statement claiming that the full completion of the rehabilitation works was scheduled for the summer of this year. City Hall noted that a restoration design for the damaged structural elements of the upper vestibule was currently being drafted, after which the actual rehabilitation works would commence.
At the same time, as early as August 2025, Mayor Kakha Kaladze had stated that the rehabilitation process would be completed by the end of that year.
The rehabilitation of the Varketili metro station originally began in 2016. The station reopened in September 2017; however, just a few months later, on January 30, 2018, a suspended ceiling collapsed onto the platform. Passengers waiting for a train were trapped under the debris, leaving 14 people injured in the incident.
