The de facto State Security Service (SGB) of Abkhazia has detained a resident of the region, Roman Darsalia, who stated that Abkhazians committed genocide against Georgians during the war of the 1990s. The agency’s website published a video showing the man apologizing “for the statements made.”
“During monitoring of the internet space, it was established that the aforementioned citizen, while on a livestream conversing with a Ukrainian blogger, made statements containing insults directed at the Abkhaz people,” the de facto SGB said on its website.
It was reported that “necessary verification measures are being carried out” regarding citizen Darsalia. “The State Security Service continues its work to ensure information security and compliance with the legislation of the Republic of Abkhazia,” the statement noted.
In the apology video, Darsalia himself says that “there was no genocide of the Georgian people; on the contrary, there was a genocide of our, Abkhaz people.” He urged people not to speak with Ukrainian bloggers, claiming they might edit videos improperly.
