The premiere of “Guria,” directed by Georgian filmmaker Levan Koguashvili, took place at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The feature was showcased in the Venice Spotlight section, which selects works distinguished by their innovation and creative originality.
Alongside the premiere, a special press screening of the film was held,
as well as a reception attended by festival guests, film industry representatives, and international media.
“Guria” is a tragicomedy about the lives of residents in the eponymous region of western Georgia in the early 1990s, set against the backdrop of economic crisis and political instability following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The protagonist, a farmer named Zuriko, tries to sell his hazelnut harvest for a decent price and get his personal life in order.
The lead roles in the film were performed by Kakhaber Choladze, Natia Nikolaishvili, Vamekh Jangidze, David Natsvladze, Anamaria Kamladze, and Sergi Kviloria.
A total of seven countries participated in the production of “Guria”: Georgia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Norway, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
Levan Koguashvili’s work will also be submitted by Georgia for the Academy Awards (Oscars) in the Best International Feature Film category, the country’s Ministry of Culture announced earlier.
