State protection has been assigned to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Gela (Geka) Geladze. According to a government decree, this task has been entrusted to the Special State Protection Service.
“Pursuant to sub-paragraph ‘d’ of paragraph 3 and paragraph 7 of Article 5 of the Law of Georgia ‘On the Special State Protection Service’, as well as sub-paragraph ‘b’ of paragraph 2 of the ‘List of Persons Subject to Protection by the Special State Protection Service’ approved by Georgian Government Decree No. 73 of February 5, 2020, state protection shall be assigned to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Gela Geladze until the necessity arising from the relevant prerequisites ceases to exist, for a period up to September 15, 2027, in accordance with the minimum standards of state protection,” reads the document dated September 15.
As a reminder, on September 14, Gela Geladze announced his resignation from the post of head of the State Security Service (SSG). Shortly thereafter, it became known that he had been appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. Geladze had previously held this position as well, though he was subsequently approved as head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Tamaz Borashvili became the new director of Georgia’s State Security Service.
