Forty-three citizens have been deported from Ireland to Georgia. Among them are 33 men, seven women, and one family with three children. According to data from Ireland’s Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, four of those deported had prior convictions in the country for various offenses.
The charter flight from Dublin was operated on September 20. According to the Georgian Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, chartering the aircraft cost the Irish authorities €225,575, excluding VAT.
Irish Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan stated that the vast majority of Georgian citizens reside in the country legally and “make a positive contribution to Irish society.”
