“We reiterated our concern over the European Union’s decision, made in June 2024, to unilaterally suspend the integration process. I believe the time has come for the EU to reconsider this erroneous decision: confrontation cannot be the right path.” This was stated during a visit to Luxembourg by the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, “the answer never lies in confrontation—answers are always found in discussion.”
“This is my second visit to Luxembourg. My first visit took place four years ago. I am pleased that, at the invitation of the President of the Luxembourg Parliament, we are here heading a delegation of the Georgian Parliament. We met with the Speaker of the Luxembourg Parliament, members of parliament, and committee chairpersons, and naturally discussed our bilateral relations, including inter-parliamentary ties, and, of course, touched upon relations with the European Union in this context.”
Papuashvili added that Brussels’ decision to suspend European integration was not the right, justified, or fair decision.
“Moreover, I believe that at the time, the aim of this step was to interfere in and influence the elections in Georgia.”
The parliamentary speaker added that even today, “certain EU leaders are attempting to turn the European integration process into an instrument of confrontation. Today, Georgia, as a candidate country, is being prevented from fully participating in the processes necessary for integration.”
