Irakli Pavlenishvili, Secretary of the Political Council of the United National Movement (UNM) party, has announced a rally in support of the imprisoned third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, scheduled for October 1 at 7:00 PM.
Pavlenishvili urged supporters to gather near the so-called “Rike Pitchers.” The opposition figure addressed that segment of society that recognizes Saakashvili’s significance “in the decisive struggle against Ivanishvili’s regime.”
“Today marks five years since the creator of independent state institutions and the architect of landmark reforms has been in prison on Putin’s orders, having been arrested by Ivanishvili’s puppet regime. Today, both outside the country and within it, no one doubts that those nine years were an era of creation, while these past 14 years have been an era of destruction.
That is precisely why I urge everyone who understands how vital those nine years were—institutional development, the expansion of tourism, Georgia’s European integration, and, above all, the restoration of Georgian families’ faith in a strong Georgia. To all who recognize this, who understand Mikheil Saakashvili’s significance today in this decisive struggle against the Ivanishvili regime, I call on you to gather on October 1 at 7:00 PM by that very building, the so-called ‘Rike Pitchers,’ which was left desolate and ruined just like our country,” Irakli Pavlenishvili stated.
