The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has launched an investigation after a 13-year-old girl gave birth in Marneuli.
Civil activist Samira Bayramova was the first to report the incident: “I was informed that a 13-year-old child gave birth to twins at the Marneuli maternity hospital… According to the source, one of the newborns died late last night, while the condition of the second is assessed as critical.”
The clinic told Radio Marneuli that they responded immediately to the incident and contacted law enforcement authorities in accordance with statutory procedures.
The investigation is being conducted under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which establishes criminal liability for sexual intercourse with a person under 16 years of age.
