Georgia national football team captain and PSG midfielder Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has commented on the injury he sustained during the Champions League match against Barcelona.
“I must return stronger for my people, who are always by my side,” the footballer wrote on social media.
“Many have asked me about this, and many have even said: if every footballer in the world prayed, matches would end in a draw. Perhaps that is so, but before every match, I only asked God to leave the pitch unharmed — alas, in vain. Very little time has passed, but the question keeps spinning in my head: why me? I have never cut corners, and for this match, I had probably prepared better than ever before in my life. I thought I was ready for anything, but not for this. And yet, I understand that God chose me, and if by doing so I spared other players on the pitch from injury, I am ready to go through these months of hard work, pain, and tears.
I know I must come back even stronger for my people, who have always supported me. I will not let you down; I give you my word that I will spare neither effort nor time. Thank you all for your support, see you soon,” Khvicha Kvaratskhelia wrote.
PSG confirmed on its official page that the Georgian footballer sustained a torn cruciate ligament and will undergo surgery in the coming days.
