Lisa Yasko Accuses Saakashvili of Using Their Daughter “for PR Purposes”

Ukrainian MP Yelyzaveta Yasko is seeking child support and attempting to strip Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, of his parental rights to their daughter, Jasmine. This was reported by Ukrainian media citing official filings on the website of the Unified State Register of Court Decisions. The story was also picked up by pro-government Georgian news outlets.

Commenting on the situation, Saakashvili wrote on social media that his imprisonment prevents him from being involved in his daughter’s life. The former president also clarified that this is precisely why his mother, Giuli Alasania, visits Jasmine and provides her with every form of support.

Earlier, Ukrainian media also reported that Mikheil Saakashvili’s mother gifted her granddaughter an apartment in Kyiv valued at 5.6 million hryvnias (around $122,800) and transferred an additional 1 million hryvnias (approximately $22,000) in cash to cover the associated taxes.

Saakashvili’s post included a photograph featuring his mother Giuli Alasania and daughter Jasmine. In the post, which was later deleted, the politician also noted that he hopes to be “freed from captivity” as soon as possible to be a part of the lives of his daughter and his other children.

However, the publication of the photo drew a sharp reaction from Lisa Yasko. On her Facebook page, she wrote that she is “categorically against publishing photographs of her children and using them for anyone’s purposes without permission.”

Yasko added that over the years she had tried to refrain from public comments and remain silent “for the sake of the child’s privacy and safety,” stressing that “children must not be used for PR purposes!”

The general public learned about the relationship between Lisa Yasko and Mikheil Saakashvili on October 1, 2021, the day the politician was detained in Georgia after secretly returning to the country ahead of municipal elections.

On that day, the former president released a video declaring that he and Yasko “love each other.” He also stated that all his previous relationships had ended, in an apparent reference to his marriage to Sandra Roelofs.

Saakashvili remains incarcerated in Georgia. He has been convicted in several criminal cases, receiving a cumulative prison sentence of 12 years and six months.
