A luxury 70-story residential skyscraper is set to be built in Tbilisi, according to plans by The Trump Organization, the real estate company owned by the family of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The construction will be carried out in collaboration with local partners, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal.
The Trump-branded skyscraper will be built in the Caucasus, serving as another example of how the Trump family company has shifted its approach to international business during his second administration term.
“The Trump Organization and its partners plan to build Trump Tower Tbilisi—an approximately 70-story mixed-use project that will become the tallest building in the Georgian capital,” the publication quoted a representative of The Trump Organization project as saying.
The building will feature luxury residential apartments, retail spaces, and hotel-style services.
The project is being developed by the architectural firm Gensler and is supported by a consortium that includes the Georgian development company Archi Group and Biograpi Living.
It is reported that the New York-based development firm Sapir Organization and a former Trump partner are also involved in the project.
The author of the article notes that in recent years, The Trump Organization has increasingly entered into international licensing and branding agreements. Critics point out that such projects could raise conflicts of interest.
The article states that Eric Trump, one of President Trump’s sons and the company’s executive vice president, declined to comment on the project.
The publication also writes that he had previously denied any conflict of interest in the company’s foreign activities, stating that The Trump Organization’s business relations are separate from the Administration’s policies. According to him, the Tbilisi project will bring a “globally recognized high standard of quality” to Georgia.
This project, as the publication notes, will also revive previously established but subsequently terminated relations between the Trump brand and Georgia.
In 2012, the company planned a project in Batumi but later withdrew from it to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. The publication notes that since his re-election for a second term, the Trump company has significantly ramped up its participation in international projects, including in the Middle East, Vietnam, and India.
“Georgia is located in a geopolitically sensitive region—it seeks to maintain relations with the West while simultaneously managing tensions with Russia. At the same time, the country is trying to attract foreign investment through business-oriented policies, low taxes, and growing tourism,” the author writes.
It is reported that the Georgian company Archi Group is one of the leading developers in Georgia, with over 55 completed projects and tens of thousands of apartments to its credit.
It is also noted that Alex Sapir, head of the Sapir Organization, gave the project personal significance, highlighting his family’s Georgian roots and stating that the project is an opportunity to “make a significant contribution” to the country’s future.
It should be added that in 2012, The Trump Organization had already announced its intention to build a Trump Tower in Batumi, Georgia. However, at that time, the project—like many other international deals—was canceled due to Donald Trump’s presidential ambitions and his desire to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
Following Donald Trump’s election as U.S. President in 2017 (Trump’s first term — Ed.), the agreement was terminated, and the Trump-branded construction did not take place.
