Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, has commented on the mutual accusations between the two former chairmen of the National Movement, Mikheil Saakashvili and Nika Melia. Gvaramia writes that he will have to make a specific decision, though he does not specify what exactly it will be.
“I have something to say, perhaps even more than anyone else. I have no less truth on my side than others, and I know how to state my position clearly. But if there is one thing that absolutely does not interest me right now and seems to me, at the very least, frivolous and a grave mistake, it is sacrificing the essential for the secondary. And if there is one thing I do not have and cannot afford to waste, it is time. Time, of which very little is left—not for us, but for our Homeland.
After:
- the successful completion of complex negotiations to create the alliance;
- the most difficult internal discussions;
- the gradual transformation of an extremely tense atmosphere into a space of constructive cooperation and normal human relations;
- two months of daily hard work with virtually no resources;
- successful international meetings and the trust and goodwill expressed toward the alliance by our foreign friends;
- and especially after the success achieved on May 26, as well as the support and trust shown to the alliance by the Georgian people,
I really did not think there would be any room left for what is happening today. And what is happening is an extremely unpleasant, highly irrational, and damaging story.
Naturally, there will be both decisions on my part (since there is no other room for maneuver left) and answers. Of course, I do not rule out a personal attitude to what is happening, but I cannot be guided by this alone—I have a team, I have coalition partners (some of whom are in prison), as well as a responsibility to society. Therefore, I will not be able to make such a decision quickly, and I do not intend to do so in a rush.
Let me say right away: I will not do anything just to please someone. That is out of the question. I will not yield to either moral or media pressure—let no one waste their energy in vain. I will act rationally, as befits responsible patriotic fighters during a period of difficult trials for the Homeland. I do not believe in battles won by shouting and hysteria; I did not even read such fairy tales in my childhood, though I can be just as good at that as anyone else,” Nika Gvaramia wrote.
As a reminder, Nika Melia had previously accused Mikheil Saakashvili of political jealousy. In his letter, he wrote that “for many years, Mikheil Saakashvili has been choked by jealousy towards him, like a noose around his neck.”
