Georgian Foreign Ministry Moves into Former Presidential Residence in Avlabari

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has relocated and, as of March 2026, has been operating from the former presidential residence in Tbilisi’s Avlabari district, Bm.ge reports.

This administrative building was previously used as the residence of Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili. Later, the building was repurposed to host official events and receptions for high-ranking guests visiting the capital.

It now houses the offices and departments of the foreign ministry.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially explained the relocation as a measure to improve working conditions and optimize the allocation of government institutions.

At present, open sources do not specify whether the building will be fully allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or if some of the premises will retain their previous functions.

As a reminder, the building of the former presidential residence in Tbilisi’s Avlabari district was constructed in the early 2000s during the presidency of Mikheil Saakashvili, serving as the official and working residence of the Georgian president.

Following the change of government in 2013, the building ceased to be the permanent workplace of the president, in line with the stance of the Georgian Dream party. Since then, it has been used primarily for official events, meetings, and hosting foreign delegations.

Today, the official residence of the President of Georgia is located on Atoneli Street. It also housed the fifth president, Salome Zourabichvili. Currently, the sixth president of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, works in the building.
