Russian citizen Tatyana Kurashkevich, suspected by the US of sanctions evasion and financial crimes, has been detained at Tbilisi International Airport.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the operation was carried out by officers of the Central Criminal Police Department and the Prosecutor General’s Office, with the assistance of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The woman is accused of facilitating criminal activity, conspiracy, and money laundering.
According to Eva Merkacheva, a member of the Russian Presidential Human Rights Council, a Georgian court has already remanded Kurashkevich in custody. She claims that the Russian citizen faces charges of economic crimes, including those related to evading sanctions against Russia. The US is seeking her extradition.
TV Pirveli reported that the detention was carried out on the basis of an Interpol warrant and an FBI request. According to journalists, the case may be linked to the export and import of components for the aviation industry.
It is noted that Kurashkevich arrived in Georgia as a tourist and has no ties to the country.
The issue of the Russian citizen’s possible extradition to the US will be decided in subsequent legal proceedings.
