Georgia’s State Security Service: Citizen detained near Bershueti village released

The State Security Service has reported the release of a Georgian citizen who was illegally detained by Russian forces near the village of Bershueti in the Gori Municipality. He is currently on territory controlled by the central government, the agency said.

According to the statement, all relevant instruments available to the central government were actively utilized in the process of his release, including the “hotline” operated by the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM).

“The State Security Service continues to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens currently in illegal detention in the occupied territories,” the statement reads.
