According to European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, Georgia’s EU accession process will only resume if the authorities reverse course. She stated this in Brussels on November 4, when a critical enlargement report concerning Georgia was published.
“The situation has deteriorated even further: there is significant democratic backsliding, a rapid erosion of the rule of law, and restrictions on fundamental rights,” Kos emphasized.
At the same time, the European Commissioner noted that the European path remains open if the Georgian authorities return to a commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights.
“Our support for the European aspirations of the Georgian people remains steadfast,” she added.
