The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has filed charges against brothers and underworld figures Giorgi and Davit Peikrishvili. Giorgi has been charged with large-scale extortion, while Davit faces charges of group hooliganism.
According to investigators, on September 17, Giorgi Peikrishvili, seeking to unlawfully seize large-scale property, demanded $47,000 (equivalent to 122,580.70 GEL) from a victim, claiming it was a share of profits derived from cryptocurrency trading, and threatened violence if the demand was not met.
The suspect was detained by police officers on September 22. He has been charged under Subparagraph (c) of Part 2 of Article 181 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (extortion, defined as demanding the transfer of another person’s property under threat of violence against the victim, committed with the intent to obtain large-scale property), which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment.
As for his brother, Davit Peikrishvili, who was also detained by the police, the prosecution has charged him with group hooliganism.
According to the investigation, on Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi, Davit Peikrishvili aggressively demanded that a motorist clear the roadway following a stop at a traffic light. Subsequently, he and Aleksandre Chapodze subjected the driver to verbal abuse and physical violence, inflicting physical pain and minor bodily injuries.
The Prosecutor’s Office stated that through these actions, Peikrishvili and Chapodze grossly violated public order, obstructed traffic, and demonstrated overt disrespect toward society.
The detainees were charged under Subparagraph (a) of Part 2 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (hooliganism, defined as an action grossly violating public order and expressing overt disrespect toward society, committed with violence by a group of persons by prior agreement). This offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of two to five years.
The prosecution is petitioning the court to remand all three defendants in custody as a preventive measure.
